COP22 President, Salaheddine Mezouar expresses his profound disappointment following the decision of President Trump to withdraw the United States of America from the Paris Agreement, an historic collaboration and universal accord in the fight against climate change.
“Despite this decision, climate action remains undeniable and irreversible. Our collective efforts to fight climate change don’t stop, not here, not today, quite the contrary they accelerate. Nations of the world, State and Non-State actors, governments, civil society, companies, NGOs and universities are already engaged in the transition towards a clean and sustainable future ripe with economic opportunity and jobs, all while being respectful of the environment. We will maintain our spirit of collaboration and ambition adopted in the Marrakech Proclamation and we will continue to pursue our collective efforts to fully implement the Paris Agreement. Today, we reaffirm, more than ever, our commitment to collective action for our climate and sustainable development, in particular for the most vulnerable. The future of our children and our planet depend on us. “
