Due to political unrest in Chile, COP 25 will be held in Madrid

Santiago / Bonn / Madrid, (November 5, 2019) – On Friday, November 1, 2019, the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) accepted the Government’s proposal of Chile to hold the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP25) of 2019 in Madrid, which was made possible thanks to the generous offer of the Government of Spain.

The COP25 will take place from December 2 to 13, 2019 at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid (https://www.ifema.es/), Avda. Del Partenón, 5 28042 Madrid, Spain.

The conference will be held under the Presidency of the Government of Chile and with the logistical support of the Government of Spain. The President designated for the conference is Carolina Schmidt, Minister of Environment of Chile.

The UN Secretariat for Climate Change is working closely with the Governments of Chile and Spain to organize the conference as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Every effort is being made to allow great participation and to maintain the size of exhibition spaces and events as planned. The final list of parallel events and exhibitions will be adjusted to the space available at the venue.

The UNFCCC secretariat will communicate more information as soon as it is available. All information about the conference will be published on this website.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
The registration procedures of COP25 remain the same. Registration for the conference is managed through the UNFCCC Online Registration System (ORS).
For visa applications, a new confirmation letter indicating the new location of the Conference is available in the “Online Registration Letter” within the online registration system. Participants who have already registered can download the new confirmation letter and request a visa for the Schengen area.
To help NGOs organize their delegations, as a first step, all registration confirmations have been canceled in the Online Registration System (ORS) and all NGOs are expected to reconfirm their delegates.
Information on who can register for the conference and how to do it is available here (we will shortly publish the Spanish version).
UN Climate Change and the Government of Spain are working on a system to provide accommodation at all levels.
Updates will be published on the Information for Participants website at COP25 (from A to Z). We will publish the Spanish version shortly.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE PRESS
Representatives of the already registered media can download a new confirmation document that indicates that the location is now Madrid.
Representatives of the media who have not yet requested accreditation are invited to submit their applications through the online registration system (link in English). The deadline for accreditation is November 25, 2019. It is recommended to register as soon as possible to avoid late delays.
Information on the accreditation of the media is available in Spanish here.
Accredited media that need a letter of support to obtain a visa can download a new one through the link that has been previously sent to them. The location has already been updated to Madrid.
Upon arrival at the venue, accredited media will be asked to go to the registration desk to collect their identification card to access the conference venue. Together with the confirmation document, a valid passport or nationally approved identification card must be presented to the registration staff for the issuance of the accreditation for the conference.

It is recommended to register at the registration desk in advance – before Monday, December 2, 2019 – to avoid delays on the first day of the conference.

Multiple registration for the conference is not allowed (that is, registration as a representative of an observer organization and as a representative of a Party or State and / or representative of the press or the media).
