{"id":7161,"date":"2021-02-24T12:13:56","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T12:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genesisarg.com\/financiamientosostenible\/?p=7161"},"modified":"2021-03-09T14:37:04","modified_gmt":"2021-03-09T14:37:04","slug":"un-welcomes-us-announcement-to-rejoin-paris-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genesisarg.com\/financiamientosostenible\/riesgos-climaticos\/un-welcomes-us-announcement-to-rejoin-paris-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Welcomes US Announcement to Rejoin Paris Agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UN Climate Change News, 21 January 2021 &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres issued the following&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2021-01-20\/statement-the-secretary-general-%E2%80%93-us-steps-re-enter-the-paris-agreement-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;on US steps to re-enter the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/process-and-meetings\/the-paris-agreement\/the-paris-agreement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris Agreement on Climate Change<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI warmly welcome President Biden\u2019s steps to re-enter the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and join the growing coalition of governments, cities, states, businesses and people taking ambitious action to confront the climate crisis.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Following last year\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/news\/climate-ambition-summit-builds-momentum-for-cop26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Climate Ambition Summit<\/a>, countries producing half of global carbon pollution had committed to carbon neutrality.&nbsp; Today\u2019s commitment by President Biden brings that figure to two-thirds.&nbsp; But there is a very long way to go.&nbsp; The climate crisis continues to worsen and time is running out to limit temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and build more climate-resilient societies that help to protect the most vulnerable. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>We look forward to the leadership of the United States in accelerating global efforts towards net zero, including by bringing forward a new nationally determined contribution (<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/process-and-meetings\/the-paris-agreement\/nationally-determined-contributions-ndcs\/nationally-determined-contributions-ndcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NDC<\/a>) with ambitious 2030 targets and climate finance in advance of COP26 in Glasgow later this year. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>I am committed to working closely with President Biden and other leaders to overcome the climate emergency, and recover better from COVID19\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa thanked US President Joe Biden for bringing the United States back into the Paris Agreement and said: \u201cI am looking forward to seeing ambitious targets in the US NDC to accelerate climate action.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NDCs are national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement which&nbsp;describe how each country plans to contribute to reaching the agreement&#8217;s goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new instrument of acceptance of the Paris Agreement by the US, expressing its consent to be bound by the Agreement, was deposited with the Secretary-General on 20 January.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Paris Agreement will enter into force for the United States on 19 February 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"846\" height=\"597\" src=\"http:\/\/genesisarg.com\/financiamientosostenible\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Capture.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7162\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Climate Change News, 21 January 2021 &#8211;&nbsp;UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres issued the following&nbsp;statement&nbsp;on US steps to re-enter the&nbsp;Paris Agreement on Climate Change: \u201cI warmly welcome President Biden\u2019s steps to re-enter the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and join the growing coalition of governments, cities, states, businesses and people taking ambitious action to confront the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":7163,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[113],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v15.9 -
